THE RIGHT PREPARATION
What the work involves
Milling before an overlay can create room for new asphalt while maintaining intended finished elevations. It is especially important at curb lines, driveways, drainage structures, and connections to pavement that will remain.
Typical project applications
- Preparation for an asphalt overlay
- Transitions to existing pavement
- Maintaining specified finished surface elevations

Planning the work
Milling depth should be coordinated with the overlay design. Areas needing deeper repairs should be identified separately so the prepared surface can support the intended paving work.
